Engineering change order (ECO) is an official change notice that one initiate upon seeing something wrong in the process or if there is a documentation discrepancies in the engineering drawing. After the initiator fills in the necessary action, it then is routed for an approval from the higher management. Basically, the higher management just makes sure that it is okay to perform the specific action. One of the benefits of having ECO is that it alerts the team in the company of an upcoming change in the project. Furthermore, this also ensures that the same mistake doesn’t happen by any other employee. Also, many times it is necessary to review the previous documented ECO to make sure the engineer incorporate the best possible process in manufacturing. All in all, ECO’s are very helpful in determining the accurate and efficient process for a new project.
