Although AI has quite a lot of potential to benefit clinical trials, there are ethical questions it brings up as well. These include bias in AI models, the inability to adequately explain AI assessments to participants, the risks to privacy and security that come with handling sensitive medical data, the absence of accountability and transparency in AI systems, and concerns ensuring regulatory compliance. Optimizing AI’s benefits while limiting its threats involves maintaining a balance between automation and human evaluation.
