I agree with all previous responses that pointed out best practices to form a good project team. From my experience, we do not get to choose who we will work with so we have to be professionals and learn to work together as a team and always focus on what is in the best for the company overall. With that said, project managers play a key role in the success of team collaboration. One successful approach is to start a project through a project charter. The project charter happens during the first meeting with all team members, it provides a preliminary delineation of roles and responsibilities, outlines the project objectives, identifies main stakeholders, and defines the authority of the project manager. This first meeting is a good opportunity for the project manager set the right tone and address the team in a way that makes a positive, team-building impact striving for an upbeat team spirit, and “we deliver as one” team attitude. Negativity can poison a team’s mood and effectiveness so instead set an example of focusing on solutions, not problems. This can go a long way maintaining an optimistic and constructive atmosphere.
