I agree with most of what you’ve said, but it seems you haven’t addressed setbacks, major or minor. Weekly planning meetings, from my experience, deals with changes to the schedule and accommodates any issues that may come up. There may be some setbacks that you can’t account for. Let’s say a vendor had problems with an order that your entire plant needs, not just your project. That delay will set not just you back, but your whole facility. If your project isn’t up and running, while the rest of the plant is, your project is going to be at the bottom of the priority on who gets the first shipment. You can’t account for stuff like that happening. You can leave some leeway in your project but that might not be enough. One issue that may be increasing is cyber attacks that cripple your systems. You had no way of seeing that issue coming up and building it into your schedule.It’s best to have a schedule as a guide but not be too beholden to it. Flexibility allows survival.
