At the core of these two terms, "project manager" and "clinical project manager", the underlying definition is that these two individuals are responsible for the coordinating the different parts of the life of a project team such as,regulatory, design, execution, monitoring, quality controlling. However, while a project manger tends to focus on projects that lead to the commercialization of that particular brand or product, the clinical project manager usually focuses on clinical research projects and makes sure that all protocols used are in compliance with the clinical objective. This job title is present in many different industries such as construction, petrochemical, architecture, information technology.

Clinical project managers are responsible for organizing, communicating and evaluating team objectives for clinical studies. Their team might include clinical research associates and clinical specialists. Clinical project managers essentially plan and manage clinical trials in order to achieve quality results. They provide leadership in developing study-related documents, which might include protocols, investigator files and informed consent documents, according to MED Institute Inc. in Indiana, which identifies and develops new medical product concepts. These professionals also might have to review invoices from study vendors, institutional review board approvals, clinical study agreements and monitoring reports. Clinical project managers additionally participate in the analysis, summary and reporting of clinical data for regulatory or marketing purposes.
A project manager is a person who has the overall responsibility for the successful initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure of a project. The project manager must have a combination of skills including an ability to ask penetrating questions, detect unstated assumptions and resolve conflicts, as well as more general management skills,

Believe it or not, there are many differences between a project manager and a clinical project manager. Project managers take on several roles such as planning what work needs to be done, when and who’s going to do it, looking at the risks involved in a particular project and managing these risks, making sure the work is done to the right standard, motivating the team of people involved in the project,  and many other duties. Although clinical project managers take on these same responsibilities, their main goal is to ensure compliance with protocols and overall clinical objectives. Overtime, clinical projects began to involve more work, studies, and data, specifically, in which projects had to abide by a variety of regulations and laws. The accountability is higher and projects may be more complex.

A project manager is simply someone that play the lead role in planning, executing, monitoring, and closing projects. A clinical project manager, or CPM, is much more different in that they manage clinical trial studies for new drugs and medical devices. They ensure the project is completed on-time and on-budget as well as overseeing projects for a client and ensuring all specifications are being followed.

What do you think is the difference between a project manager and a clinical project manager

The difference between a project manager and a clinical project manager is that a project manager is the individual that in charge of planning and executing a project and this has very little to do with any aspects that are medical. A clinical project manager is also in charge of planning and execution of a project but this in the clinical aspect. It is not much that is a different between the two of these titles but the aspect of the setting to which it is completed. As both conduct and make sure that the project is on target and within the desired budget and following the outline that is set for it. Other than that there is not much difference between the two.
