Hello,

The importance of interpersonal skills within a job is high. I believe Daniel Goleman places such a high stress on interpersonal skills is because every occupation, to some degree, there is interactions with other humans in order to reach a common goal. In this course, we are learning that projects are present in every hierarchy of the industry, and the vast majority of projects will require group effort and collaboration to complete. However, I believe technical skills are equally as important. Without the required technical skills for the job, it is unlikely that the project will progress. Workers with high drive will be motivated to learn the skills for the project, though some tasks will require inherent knowledge and foundation, such as coding or wet lab related projects. As such, both interpersonal and technical skills are important for an engineering job. Technical skills are crucial for an engineer to be able to perform their job duties and to stay up-to-date with industry advancements. They need to have a solid understanding of the technical principles and practices of their field, as well as proficiency in using the tools and equipment needed for the project. However, interpersonal skills are also important because engineering often involves working in teams and communicating with clients, managers, and other stakeholders. Engineers who are able to effectively communicate, collaborate, and negotiate are more likely to be successful in their careers. They are also more likely to be able to build strong relationships with others and to be seen as trusted and dependable members of their team.

In conclusion, I believe the optimal ratio is 40-60 interpersonal skills to technical skills.
