Hi All,
In this week lecture Dr.Simon discussed Project Proposal (Initiating), which is the first document in a design control.
Let us talk about How to prepare a successful project proposal for designing a Medical Device.
What should be included in this document and why ?
Share what do you think, also if you have any question about the topic?

For example:
The project proposal should include "Project Schedule or time line for each task" (Gantt chart: A Gantt chart is an overview of tasks/proposed activities and a time frame for the same. You put weeks, days or months at one side, and the tasks at the other. You have to indicate the period the task will be performed to give a timeline for your research study or your project)

The project proposal or project charter is the document approved by Management for a project to get underway. It actually will not usually include a Gantt Chart but instead a rough estimate of the timeline including major project milestones and estimated dates. The real details come after the project charter is approved.

Other than the project milestone summary, other items that should be included in the proposal are a description of the project, the business need, project objectives, high level project requirements, project risks, any project constraints and a summary of the budget. These things should all be high level, the details will come with the project plan (D&D Plan). The proposal should also identify project sponsor and project manager. These items are necessary to include in the project charter because management needs that information to approve or reject the project.

Hello all,

A project proposal is the core document that help you to sell a potential project to sponsors and stakeholder. A project proposal is unique to each project, of course, but the format is basically the same. The best proposal are well researched once.

A project proposal should contain the following key items 1. Background 2. Objective 3. Scope 4. Time frame 5. Project budget 6.Key stakeholder 7. Monitoring and Evaluation, all this item has to be approved. summary should include the following items a brief identification and purpose of your organization. The purpose and anticipated end result of this proposal, the type and amount of support requested,The total anticipated budget.

Project proposals is actually an idea that you give to a company for financial assessment to complete that project. The proposal exactly says about the plan of implementation of the project, giving information about the project, ways they will manage it and lastly the results that will be delivered from it.Its all how you plan your action and a series of steps to solve that project or a problem.According to me the main things to be included in the proposals are logical presentation of research done or an idea, tell the significance of that idea, show the relationships of that idea to the pas actions, articulate the activities that needs to be done for the completion of that project. At the end I would say that proposals is a way of presenting the idea to the outside world for the acceptance.

I think there are pieces from every post before mine that are critical in what should be included. I agree, to an extent, with what all of you have had to say. I think it needs to be improved by management, and to give the company reasons to fund your idea. The proposal should not only include what ks629 and ial4 said, but also a realistic factor. Why is the idea important, and how is it different than other companies. The budget and timeline also have to extensively looked at to ensure projects can be completed in the given set points. It would be better to have "leftover" money and time rather than cost more or extend the timeline.

A project proposal is a detailed description of a series of activities aimed at solving a certain problem. I believe that when initiating a project proposal, the document should include an overview of the project, the project description and purpose, the design description, support research with market gap, the project's potential budget, and a Gantt Chart Schedule. These descriptions show the organization and importance of the project.

I agree with @iala4 that important sections to include are 1. Background 2. Objective 3. Scope 4. Time frame 5. Project budget 6.Key stakeholder. I also agree with @f-dot that a realistic budget and timeline are key. With the projects that I deal with if we contract out the development we look for the company to provide an extensive timeline with a gnat chart and to summarize the major milestones/deliverables and a budget that is broken down into different phases. So Phase O is the planning phase where the detailed gnatt chart and plan are organized, and budget for Phase 1a/Phase IIb are established. Overall, I think there are different titles/sections that can be included in a Project Proposal, but to get buy-in from key stakeholders its important to have a clear/realistic timeline and budget.

As you guys have mentioned, the project proposal is the heart of the initial project. It is meant to be a short, insightful look into what the device will be about, its cost, and why it should be created. Its important for the proposal to be succinct -- it cannot be lengthy or overly drawn out because all that will do is force the people you are proposing to to glaze over and move onto the next proposal.

Requirements for a project proposal are as follows: A description of the product along with its intended use and targeted customers. The market size and selling price should be included. There should be a section that discusses the products specifications based on its user needs. Finally, the addition of estimates to the cost of production and testing is required. Market size should be included for all countries where the product may be distributed in.

This is based on the article project manager. To prepare a successful project for designing a Medical Device these steps should be taken. The first step is the background which includes history, requirements, and solution. The second step is the proposal. This step includes the company's vision/goals, a blueprint of the plan, time frame, resources, budget, risk and issues, success criteria, authorization, and key stakeholder.

I believe that biggest importance with handling a project proposal is to pay strong attention to the details when making the proposal. When details or omitted or forgotten they can become a way larger issue later in the projects development. For a proposal to be productive it must be easily understood by who is reading it. When developing a project, it is easier to forget details due to having a large amount of knowledge on the project. It is important to remember that whoever is reading the proposal could have zero experience with the situation. Even beyond it being understandable it is also easier to add details in earlier stages than it is in the later stages. Often once a protocol is accepted an started a CAPA is needed to make any changes at a later date.

A Project Proposal is a detailed description of a series of activities that deal with solving a certain problem. It's nothing but just converting the project plan into a project document. The project proposal should provide a logical presentation of the research idea.It should also show that how this idea is significant than any other idea in the market. It should show the timeline of all the works been done in the past for the project.

Project proposal should be done with extensive research of the device you are proposing along with how it will help the consumer. It should include the market gap between the competitors and how money it will bring to the company. Project proposal should be clear and straightforward so that anyone can understand it. It should provide a clear idea of the product and how it is better than the market already. It should include who the product will be targeted towards. The project manager should be in charge of writing of the project proposal even if it was not their idea.

Proposals always have high expectations. I believe in order to provide a successful proposal you have to give more than that is expected from you. To put on new things or ideas on proposal makes them different from other cliches. This can be done by gathering ever idea from everyone. Ideas can give novel creations if put in a right way. Giving something new something more than that is expected can make a project proposal successful every single time.

After determining the main problem that needs to be addressed, or the new product the team wants to create, team members should do more research on solutions/options already available to the public. They should discuss the shortcomings of those existing options and why their proposed product will be more effective. Then the costs (time and money) required, and potential revenue from succeeding should be weighed against one another. Finally, they can assign a few people from the team to draft the proposal, the rest edit it, before having the product manager approve it.
