Marketing in today's digital age seems to have become more effective than ever. A large percentage of the population has a smartphone at our immediate disposal in which we look at somewhere around 40 times per day. With social media influencing so many peoples lives, there is a new massive market for advertising directly to consumers in your target audience. The most important aspect of marketing is successfully identifying and advertising to your target market. For example, a perfect marketing campaign for luxury cars directed towards young children will have almost no effect. In today's world people can and do use their smartphones for anything they want. And based on this data, advertisements that directly meet a persons needs / wants show up on their social media feed, internet browser, and more. Additionally, adding to the effectiveness of marketing in today's age, everything is at the click of a button, impulsive reactions to marketing and advertisements are readily available in everyone's pockets.

Marketing is just getting people to know about your product and the good things about it. For people in the market looking to buy a medical product, there are obviously ads that they will see through the internet or another form of media but that isn't how they are usually sold something. They would get in contact with companies if other companies' sales team don't find them first and then have a meeting with a salesman. What the salesman is going to try to do is build some kind of relationship with the buyer and tell them all the good things about the product. Then since the buyer will feel so educated about the product, he will buy it instead of the other competitors' products. I don't think a lot of salesmen go into the meeting with the buyer thinking "I'm going to manipulate the heck out of this guy so buys all my product". That would be crazy! No one wants to manipulate people or be a bad person; the way that emotional intelligence is involved is just being able to carry and hold conversations with a person so that they don't feel bored or awkward or have any bad vibes because if they have bad vibes about you, they're probably going to have bad vibes about the product you're selling or the company that you're selling from.

Marketing is all about selling the product to the customer in need, there are a lot of aspects to consider here, and its just not about being smart and selling the device, the sales rep does prior research of the Doctor/Hospital he is going for a visit, he knows that there is a demand of that product in that center or there will be a demand in the future so its all about building a relationship before a big sale happens, you build a relationship with the doctor with good communication, trust and understanding his needs at that moment.
Marketing is a skill and one needs to possess tons of patience.

According to me, Marketing is a way of promoting/selling a product or service. It is the way of presenting the product to the customers. Marketing methods include television commercials, magazine advertisements, internet marketing, printed marketing, viral marketing etc. Marketing is based on thinking about the business interms of customer needs and their satisfaction.

Marketing to me is that the companies/firms should assess the needs of the customers most importantly and depending on those needs make appropriate decisions after a proper research of the already existing products to understand how they will be able to satisfy those needs more efficiently and effectively than their competitors or having a new product after having understood the need for a certain product has been realized from customers. The main goal of marketing is to promote the product so that the customers are aware about the product through various platforms with social media being the number 1 platform presently. Customer service, enhancing public relation, brand awareness and building relations with customers plays a big role in marketing.

Marketing is spreading a brand to the world. People, such as celebrities or athletes, market themselves as the product, and spread their brand through their respective media, either on TV or with their own tangible products that spin-off from their own success. For example, Michael Jordan has become synonymous with basketball royalty, and initially he himself was the product generating revenue on the court. Jordan however became the marketing genius he is today with a physical product that can be sold to the world, so as to give his brand a tangible product that consumers can enjoy. Since the release of his first shoe, Jordan has now also become synonymous with everyday footwear, causing hysteria with each new release. His successful marketing was originally not through traditional means, although Nike obviously gave Jordan the platform to promote his brand through them resulting in their control in the marketing of his product. His marketing came through wearing his shoes on the courts he excelled in. It was not uncommon for the best players to have shoe deals then, but now many players have shoe deals by the time they are drafted into the NBA.

In my opinion, marketing is resonating with and capturing the attention of the audience by understanding their desires and showcasing why the proposed product will provide fulfillment. The marketing dept. must be experts on the concept of supply and demand, and work with other departments (like sales), to pinpoint a fair and reasonable price the public is willing to pay for the product. Resources should also be allocated towards studying the current trends that interest each demographic. Although I am inexperienced in the marketing, I don't believe it relies that heavily on manipulation. The focus is on making the product more alluring (without deception and blatant disregard of the client's needs) and increasing exposure without emptying the company's reservoir. The main hurdle the marketing dept. must overcome is simply getting the product to stand out against others, and noticed. This can be done by sponsorships, encouraging employees to tell their friends and family members to share posts through social media, and attending more tradeshows.

For me, marketing is to know your customers, understand your customers and guide your customers. These steps include all forms of advertising. The first step is to know your customers. Take medical devices as example, most of your customers are in the hospital. I don't think there will be any medical device salesmen selling medical devices in other places, such as to sell medical devices to the owner of a restaurant. I think it's stupid to do so. Therefore, it is critical to recognize the target audience of the product. Secondly, understand your customers. After the target audience is defined, it is also necessary to understand the needs of customers. Only when the function of a product is what customers want, customers will be interested in understanding your product. This process is a process of mutual selection. Third, guide your customers. When the product caters to the preferences of the target audience, it is necessary to properly guide customers to purchase. Then, it is necessary to inform customers why they choose your product and what are the advantages of your product. I don't have business background knowledge. The above is just some of my thoughts. If there is any mistake, please discuss and correct it.

Assessing marketing is a new exercise for me. Prior to taking this course my perspective of marketing was its role was limited to conveying company information to potential customers. But this weeks lecture taught me that marketing includes the role of soliciting information from customers to provide back to the company.

In the company to customer direction, conveying information to customer occurs in many ways such as through customers service, regulatory, sales, research, quality, operations, management and clinical. Marketing is supposed to influence company communication to its customers in all the areas. This means marketing job is to craft a customer experience of a company across the company's many interfaces whereby the customer is influenced to choose the company as its source for a particular product.

In the customer to company direction, the role of marketing is find ways to access customers view of the company so as to assist the various internal parts of the company in making decision to maintain a positive view of the company.

In my opinion, I believe that marketing can in some cases be manipulative and can coerce someone into buying something that they do not need. In a scenario such as this, I believe this is a form of marketing that is adopted by businesses or individuals hoping to persuade you to buy just one product rather than to build the trust for you to become a regular customer. Therefore, marketing to me in relation to a large and well-known company is creating a connection with potential customers that showcases that the company creates quality products that can solve a need or problem of the customer. A marketing plan that can work to establish such a relationship helps in assuring that a customer would be inclined to purchase other products or newer iterations of other previously purchased products by this company. Another important factor of marketing, in my opinion, is the need to showcase or persuade potential customers why or how their product is far better than that of a competitor. In relation to medical device companies, in particular, I believe it is important to establish a high level of trust rather than employing manipulative tactics to sell a product. Aside from the legal issues, I believe a major reason for this is that if a product sold to say a doctor doesn’t perform as was marketed, the doctor will most likely not be inclined to purchase from that individual or company again. Overall, successful marketing is the ability to continuously showcase to target consumers the high quality and reliability of the products being marketed by the company.

Even for me marketing is best when you are actually honest aand truthful to the customer and give them the actual details and information and tell then about the uniqueness of the product. These days, where we are living in such a fast and technology oriented era, when someone has to buy anything they end up googling about the product first then go to the store or search online,so marketing should focus as why their product is unique and tell them the details rather than lying about it.

Simply put Marketers are the brains behind getting the word out about their organization’s products or services.

To me, marketing is knowing your customers and targeting your sales pitch to get them to want to buy your product. This includes things like getting advertisements sent by mail or online, commercials/infomercials, or phone calls. But of course with medical devices, this is not the case. Who needs to be targeted, where should you target these people, how much should you provide the product and service for at this location, and how should you promote this product is of great importance. When it comes to healthcare, the marketing methods should not manipulate the product but needs to be honest about the advantages and disadvantages of the product.

To start with, marketing and sales are two different things, but we can call them 2 different sides of the same coin. Sales are, as the name suggests, include the activities of selling products and/or services. On the other hand, marketing is the process that gets the targetted consumer interested in those products or services. In a way, marketing is the brain of the operation while sales in the face of the operation.

Research and analysis of the target consumer are the major responsibilities of a marketeer. The result of this research and analysis get to be used with different strategies. These include internet marketing, blog marketing, video & radio marketing, social media marketing, etc. In the end, an agreement called Service-level-agreement(SLA) is made between the marketing and sales departments to ensure their symbiotic relationship of a process within the defined industry. In other words, 2 different departments create a partnership and work together for the same goal at different fronts.
