In addition to sales meetings and commercial marketing strategies, surgeons can also play a big role in promoting new devices, especially during early market adoption. However, this can sometimes cause confusion between what is considered scientific endorsement and commercial promotion. Should physicians be compensated for their influence on sales, or does that blur the line between patient advocacy and marketing? Additionally, how transparent should companies be about these relationships?
