Testing aimed at ensuring that a product or system fulfills the defined user needs and specified requirements, under specified operating conditions is called Design Validation. My question is why is design validation an important factor in project management?
Design validation is important factor because the purpose is to prove with objective evidence that the product satisfies the documents of user needs. The objective evidence is nothing but any physical proof of the output such as an image, text or audio file which indicates that the procedure has been accomplished.
As many have said in this thread, validation of the product confirms the functionality of the product and answers the question on "Does this product work as intended and does it do it well?". There are many engineers who can design a great product in theory and prototype something functional, but ultimately, the voice of customer is extremely important. There are many reasons why the trace matrix of a project will include performance and customer requirements such as ergonomic and product look and feel requirements. These user needs are a large focus of engineering not only a good product, but one a customer can back as their "go to" tool. There are also areas of the instrument that physical testing in a lab cannot recreate where some unintentional uses of the instrument may break the prototype. Although this would fail validation, it is better to go through another validation lab than to bring faulty product in the field and cause patient harm/lose surgeon trust. Design validation is important to ensure that the intended product does in fact work and is able to be used by its customers without failure.
Project design validation aims at proving if the project team can deliver a project within the speculated time frame to its customer which satisfies his or her business or research or even demand. The design should make into account the cost , time and the accepted level of risks. it sets the commitment of the team towards achieving the project goals and accepting the shared risks of failing to do such. Validation aims at establishing the design and conceptual estimate. Validation enables team to include as other users have mentioned a series of complicated tests and controls. Similar to what we are experiencing now with SARS CoV vaccines. The validation to ship out a vaccine to the common individuals needs series of human trials and efficacy exams which it needs to pass.
Validation is extremely important as it tests to see if a product works. With any project, there will always be someone who should benefit from this project. The user or customer needs should be considered since the success of any project depends on if the customers want the end objective of the project. Verification is important to ensure that the final product meets the requirements, but validation would also be important because if a product does not work as intended, the customer will not want it.
Design validation is being done by the project seniors and is a very minute and very meticulous process. it takes a whole lot of effort and time to design an experiment or even a design. It takes even more time to validate it. All the risks, the outcomes, the profits, the management and downfalls are calculated and the final draft is made and validated by the senior project managers. The validation is one of the final steps in which the all the review and revised meetings are done and a comprehensive review for the design is given and if every thing is satisfactory then the design goes into the validation process and it is out of the production line. Every product and design has to pass through the validation such that it is consumer friendly .
