As a lab technician, a huge part of our job is logging work because when we need it later on down the line we'll have it stored so it can be easily found. At my former job, it was more organized. After each shift, we would have to go into an application called log book and write down everything our day entailed, what came in and out of the lab, and what needed to be done that we could not get done during the shift. That let the next person know what to expect on their shift. If we changed product, got a raw material that needed to be ran, or if maintenance on an instrument was being performed, or down, we would put it into logbook so the next person would know. Also, we would log all of our sample information for that day into LIMS, a record keeping system, so even if the paperwork was filed away or lost, we could look it up in LIMS and it would always be there.
Why wouldn't we keep a record of what we have done on a project? It would have no merit and it would be all for nothing. Keeping accounts of what went on during the project not only helps reproduce results, but can be used as a reference for future studies. Keep a detailed written notebook as well as using and exploring types of computer systems such as LIMS, can help you also.
According to the lecture for this week, logging work is important because it can be usefully when new employees come to work on the project or when starting a new project, logs can help as a guidance of not making the same mistakes.
I know when I worked in a research lab, I would have to write down what I did on that day, such as the procedure I followed and time at which the experiment was executed. Then, if a new person came into the lab, I would who him or her the lab notebook.
Moreover, when I worked on capstone project of creating a mobile application, we had tons of scripts. So, to remember what function is what in a script, my team and I started commenting the code. The script first started with a block comment, which had the person who worked on it, the what the script did and when the code was last updated. Then, each method or function that was used in the script was commented.Share an experience when keeping a log of the work you did on a project either at work or school helped you out in some way.
Logging work is so beneficial and critical when working on a project. This has served me both at work and in the school setting. For work it has helped me know exactly where I left off with a project that was assigned by a supervisor. It kept me stay organized so that I could go through the processes that I needed to go through and it also left a very detailed log of what I had done so that it could be followed in the future. For classes it has been critical to make sure that I was logging in work so that the professor could see the steps I used in a experiment and be able to correct me so that some mistakes would not be made in the future.

As a dental assistant, we had to log everything. We kept charts for cleaning, lab work, teeth charts, and appointments just to name a few. I think without keeping tabs on what we did in our day-to-day activity the office would not function properly. A lot of patients don't know the proper lab etiquette or terms so being able to take notes and keep data helps save time. Also, we kept forms for impressions to send to the lab with dates and times to make sure everything was in order. I think logging work is very important because confirms the date and time. Also, you have proof of everything that was conducted.
