Fp55 replied to the topic NDA vs Patents in the forum Consultants and Legal Basics 6 years, 10 months ago
I think an NDA can facilitate the road to obtaining a patent. An NDA can help protect the idea from getting into the wrong hands, and legally allows you to discuss information without worrying about leaking it. You would have all parties present sign an NDA before a patent is even issued.
A patent protects intellectual property for a set amount…[Read more] -
Fp55 replied to the topic Discussion Topic: Course conclusion and impressions in the forum Consultants and Legal Basics 6 years, 10 months ago
This course was really informational above all. The lectures did a good job of explaining everything and the discussions made it easy to see how it applies to the real world. I learned a lot about medical device companies and how they operate just by reading other people’s experiences. The discussions work well to reinforce what was said in the…[Read more]

Fp55 replied to the topic Medical Device Project in the forum Organizational Development in Device Companies 6 years, 10 months ago
We have a Google drive folder set up that everyone has access to. Our PM uploaded each document and also created a rough draft of the DID which had a column on the side for comments. We had a week to make our suggestions and then we will finalize them in person. The RA draft was also completed and we will add our suggestions to it. We plan to meet…[Read more]

Fp55 replied to the topic Upper vs Middle Management. in the forum Organizational Development in Device Companies 6 years, 10 months ago
I think I would prefer to work in middle management because I would want to be more involved in the project. I like to think critically and I am detail orientated. I feel that these two qualities would be very helpful for someone working in middle management rather than upper management. I like to collaborate with a team that I can build a close…[Read more]

Fp55 replied to the topic Your Organizational prference; but why? in the forum Organizational Development in Device Companies 6 years, 10 months ago
I think I would prefer a matrix organization while working on a project. In a matrix organization you are a part of two groups, the functional group and project group. You also have two managers, one for the project and one for your function. This to me makes it very clear what objectives need to be completed. This style world very well when each…[Read more]

Fp55 replied to the topic Factors Contributing to Risk Values in the forum Risk Analysis for Medical Devices 6 years, 11 months ago
An important factor of determining the value of the risk index is the tolerability of the risk. Often low risks such as mild discomfort associated with the use of the device can receive a low index number even if the chance of occurrence is very high. In this situation both the tolerability and severity of risk make the risk index low. However, if…[Read more]

Fp55 replied to the topic What is Risk-benefit analysis ? in the forum Risk Analysis for Medical Devices 6 years, 11 months ago
One risk-benefit factor to consider is how false-positive or false-negative results would affect the patient. In the case of a diagnostic device that produces a false-positive result, the patient would be incorrectly diagnosed with a disease. The patient would then be subject to all of the risks associated with the treatment while receiving none…[Read more]

Fp55 replied to the topic Discussion Topic: Risk Management, Risk Analysis in the forum Risk Analysis for Medical Devices 6 years, 11 months ago
ISO 14971 requires a specific risk management process for medical device companies to follow. The major phases are risk analysis, risk evaluation, risk control, residual risk evaluation, risk/benefit analysis, and evaluation of overall residual risk acceptability. A risk management report is created to organize and summarize all of the risk…[Read more]

Fp55 replied to the topic Design input sources in the forum Introduction to Design Controls 6 years, 11 months ago
Often it is not the end user that is the source of design input. Especially for medical devices, more technical design inputs are inspired by suggestions from surgeons and other medical practitioners. These inputs can be improvements on fit of an implant, or increase time between revision surgeries, etc. Over the years as more patients use the…[Read more]

Fp55 replied to the topic Factors to Consider While making Gantt Chart in the forum Introduction to Design Controls 6 years, 11 months ago
Gantt charts are used to plan projects using long term and short term deadlines. In my experience it is important to incorporate both of these components to the timeline. Often, only hard deadlines such as those determined by external factors are considered. In order to meet these crucial deadlines, smaller tasks that are key components of an…[Read more]

Fp55 replied to the topic Consequences Of Insufficient Design Controls in the forum Introduction to Design Controls 6 years, 11 months ago
Often times the case of insufficient design controls is actually the failure to establish good document management. The success of a medical device depends largely on its foundation. Good document management will consequently lead to clear and concise design controls. Clear organization of documents will allow the team to adequately update…[Read more]

Fp55 replied to the topic Customer Needs and Design Input in the forum Introduction to Design Controls 6 years, 11 months ago
The purpose of the design input document is to define each user need as an objective and measurable design input. While developing the product each of these inputs must be addressed and included in the design specification document. This document should have all of the necessary details required such that another company can pick up the document…[Read more]

Fp55 replied to the topic What are Design Controls? in the forum Introduction to Design Controls 6 years, 11 months ago
Design controls are to demonstrate that a product completes the user needs, meets inputs and requirements, is proven to meet the standards, and meets the performance criteria.
The FDA clauses for Design Controls and ISO 13485:2016 clauses regarding Design & Development are almost identical. Each require that your design controls consist of design…[Read more] -
Fp55 replied to the topic Design Verification & Validation vs Clinical & Pre-Clinical Trials in the forum Introduction to Design Controls 6 years, 11 months ago
If there is sufficient evidence already available for a similar device, V&V will only be necessary to make sure that the device meets the user needs (validation) and that the device functions as it should (verification). However, sometimes the results from clinical trials may be necessary for design verification. In this case it would be helpful…[Read more]

Fp55 replied to the topic Right to Try Law in the forum Clinical Research Basics 6 years, 11 months ago
The right to try law seems to be a viable option for those who have no other hope. Critics argue that such experimental trials can harm the patient, but these drugs have already been approved for clinical trials. That means that other people are taking the same risks. I do however think that the doctors of the patient should be well versed on the…[Read more]

Fp55 replied to the topic Informed consent: What if Henrietta Lacks checked No for research use? in the forum Clinical Research Basics 6 years, 11 months ago
Since the laws were not in place at the time it is trivial to say that her family should have received compensation. The question is how can her family receive what they deserve today? Her two eldest grandsons wish to be made aware of how her cells are used and are not asking for ownership of the cells. I think this is important for the scientific…[Read more]

Fp55 replied to the topic Who should own clinical trial Inventions? in the forum Clinical Research Basics 6 years, 11 months ago
I found this topic interesting as I have worked in a research lab at NJIT. During my time there I did receive a grant that would partially cover some of the materials required for my project. I didn’t think about the possibility of an unexpected finding so I looked into NJIT’s policy regarding intellectual property. The policy clearly states that…[Read more]

Colors do have the power to invoke emotion, whether it is positive or negative. The combination of colors is also used to quietly associate the brand with well known positive…[Read more]

Cheerios has put out a great ad that really reinforced their brand image. The advertisement is called Good Goes Around and features many clips edited together. Fp55 replied to the topic WHAT IS MARKETING TO YOU? in the forum Marketing and Sales 6 years, 11 months ago
Marketing to me is the amount of money needed to convince people that they need a product or a service. Companies that sell a product which has a fixed, inelastic demand would not waste resources to market the product to their existing customers. However, some companies have convinced consumers that their products are a necessity, not a want.…[Read more]
