jr377 replied to the topic Company Ratios in the forum Business 101 6 years, 11 months ago
I talked about this in another forum post. A bad year doesn’t matter for big companies because they can afford risks that smaller companies can’t. For example, Tesla is having a worse year compared to last year but I don’t believe that people are too worried. Tesla is diversifying their products and trying to meet a high demand. That demand isn’t…[Read more]

jr377 replied to the topic Partnership characteristics in the forum Business 101 6 years, 11 months ago
I’m not sure I would choose either, but I would definitely choose one over the other if I knew the person who would be my potential partner. If i was to do partnership It would have to be someone I considered as family or someone who is actually family. Those are the people you know best and trust. I would know whether or not they’re suitable…[Read more]

I chose to research Tesla Inc.
ROA: -7.64
ROE: -43.63
ROI: -14.25
Gross Margin: 19.15, Net Margin: -16.68
Liquidity Current Ratio: .86
Revenue: about $4 billionBased off of dh239’s numbers the stats are worse than last year. However there was a significant growth in revenue. Tesla has been having issues with getting it’s products out, Elon Musk…[Read more]

jr377 replied to the topic Relation of Quality with other department. in the forum Quality Control and Quality Assurance 7 years ago
I agree with manolo on many points, but I believe there is more to add. Personal relations are important but I believe that there could be more interdepartmental cooperation project wise. Maybe monthly meetings between the different departments. I haven’t worked in industry, but I assume that this isn’t done because of the time needed. Maybe…[Read more]

jr377 replied to the topic Discussion Topic: The cost of Quality in the forum Quality Control and Quality Assurance 7 years ago
People who complain about quality control probably are very short sighted in general. Quality control is basically insurance. You buy insurance just in case something goes wrong, like getting sick, into a car accident, or your house burns down or floods. It costs money in the mean time, and you may never need it. If something does happen, you’ll…[Read more]

jr377 replied to the topic Regulations with quality in the forum Quality Control and Quality Assurance 7 years ago
I disagree with Dkonara921 on one aspect. I agree with the fact that regulations are made with good intentions, and that companies can work around them. I disagree with the notion that the FDA should allow drugs that don’t work. Maybe you mean “drugs that don’t work effectively, but still somewhat work”. What’s the point of marketing a drug that…[Read more]

jr377 replied to the topic Drugs banned in US but not in other countries in the forum Regulatory Basics for Medical Devices 7 years ago
I am perfectly fine with the US not following other countries standards when it comes to allowing drugs to enter the market. I will expand upon jz365 and manolo’s point. One of the best examples I can give is Thalidomide as a sleeping pill. Post world war two, sleeping pills became a big hit, for obvious reasons (after seeing unimaginable horrors,…[Read more]

jr377 replied to the topic FDA rules too strict? in the forum Regulatory Basics for Medical Devices 7 years ago
I believe that the FDA would rather over-regulate than under-regulate. It’s not always a bad thing though. The products that would affect someone over their entire lifetime need to be carefully considered when deciding whether or not they should be put on the market. One big issue for me is when a product could be used on someone who is terminally…[Read more]

jr377 replied to the topic Discussion Topic: e-cigarettes in the forum Regulatory Basics for Medical Devices 7 years ago
Technically, the FDA regulates all nicotine products including cigarettes and e-cigs. I however, don’t believe that they should be classified as a class III medical device. Regulation has a tendency to kill small businesses, because it only takes one law and now you produce illegal goods. Dr. Simon was right when he said that larger companies can…[Read more]

jr377 replied to the topic Discussion Topic: Beyond experimental design issues in the forum Pre-clinical Device Development 7 years ago
I agree with some points by jz365 but I disagree on other points. For example, the connections and bias aspects I agree with. The rest I disagree. Instead of shipping the animals, you would have some near the particular lab. With the technology of this day and age, you don’t have to fly out there or hear it from the PI, all you have to do is have…[Read more]

jr377 replied to the topic Research for the Fututre or Now? in the forum Pre-clinical Device Development 7 years ago
I would like to do research that would be helpful right away, but a lot of the times you need the longitudinal studies and research in order to come up with the most effective products. You need to have as much information as possible in order to come up with a product. For example, therapies focused on vision require the long term studies that…[Read more]

jr377 started the topic Animals Used in Animal Testing in the forum Pre-clinical Device Development 7 years ago
There are people who have varying issues with animal testing but I have not seen anyone talk about the different animals used in testing in the past or present. Animals ranging from invertebrates to vertebrates such as cats, dogs, and non-human primates have been used in the past. Where is the line drawn? For example, people may cringe at the idea…[Read more]

jr377 replied to the topic Manager Vs Engineering in the forum Intro to Project Management 7 years ago
Although I agree with many points from jz365, I don’t agree with the percentages. I believe that managers should be promoted from the engineers, so that they have a total grasp of what the engineers beneath them are doing. Knowing the issues that may arise would allow the manager to plan more accurately knowing what problems may arise and how to…[Read more]

jr377 replied to the topic Milestones Missed: Failure or Success? in the forum Intro to Project Management 7 years ago
There’s a lot of people who’ve said that missing a milestone is a failure, but it’s not just that, it’s your failure. I don’t believe this is always the case. Is it technically a failure? Of course. However, there will always be situations that are out of your control and all you can do is have planned for it and set another milestone in order to…[Read more]

jr377 replied to the topic Discussion Topic: Project Management in a medical device setting in the forum Intro to Project Management 7 years ago
I believe there are a few more differences between building a building vs an implant for example. A building will have a timeline that is more necessary to follow. Buildings will usually have a shorter building timeline in comparison with a product. It is more critical to follow the timeline because permits and other things needed to construct a…[Read more]

jr377 replied to the topic Thoughts on BME degree, "a little of everything" in the forum Introduction to Medical Device Development 7 years ago
I appreciate the fact that BME has many different majors rolled into one. The thing is, practically each track is a different major with biology tied in. Biomechanics? Mechanical Engineering with biology. Biomaterials? Chemical Engineering, Materials, and biology. Bioinstrumentation? Electrical Engineering with some computer stuff and biology.…[Read more]

jr377 replied to the topic Discussion Topic: Practical vs. Informational courses in the forum Introduction to Medical Device Development 7 years ago
To cjm64’s question, absolutely yes. The problem is that NJIT requires most courses you take, leaving it almost useless. NJIT has way too many courses that aren’t useful for those looking to go to into industry.
Does anyone else believe that NJIT should have an academic vs an industry track with the subdivisions of the ones we currently have?

jr377 replied to the topic Discussion Topic: Academia vs. Industry in the forum Introduction to Medical Device Development 7 years ago
I think that people really should get experience in both a lab or at a company because I feel that that is the best barometer for deciding whether or not they should go into academia vs industry. Seeing as I have no experience in industry I don’t feel comfortable stating anything other than the obvious pros/cons that have been previously said.…[Read more]
