As previously stated by my classmates, I strongly believe that a project manager’s level of motivation affects the team’s productivity and motivation level. The project manager keeps the team on top of their tasks while also providing productive criticism. When a PM talks down to their team or doesn’t make them feel like the work they are doing is meaningful, they won’t have the drive to finish. Supposing I was a project manager in a medical industry, I would try my best to make sure my team knows that the work they are doing is important and deserves their full attention. I would also give them feedback on the work they are doing and make sure that the project they are doing is a learning process as well. During my capstone project this year, my project manager (the class’ professor) let my team know ahead of time that our customer (the professor we were working for) was disappointed in the past by their capstone group. He told us to make sure we apply significant effort into the project at hand because he didn’t want our customer to be disappointed a second time. This heads up motivated my team and I intensely, and as we come to the end of our project, our customer is extremely happy with our progress.
