I saw different roles of industry jobs during first lecture. For academic job, publication and research expererience might be helpful. However, I want to know how can i prepare myself for the industry job? What should i learn that might be helpful for industry job?
The thing that I have observed (that I still haven't got a chance to do) is that people started out more smoothly if they have intern experience. I also really wonder what will happen to me later when I got my PhD and then try to get a job in the industry: will I get a fresher position with non-bare-minimum pay or no? If I have to start just like bachelors' freshers, then will my PhD help boosts my promotion pace or what? I will (I think) and I also suggest you to talk to your PI about the orientation of joining the PhD and see if he/she is supportive of letting you intern during PhD summer sometimes. I guess just try your best doing lab right now so they agree that you have devoted enough to get some time off interning? And I think that anyone who is against it is kind of a red flag (?)
Apart from internships, I’d say focus on building skills that are directly relevant to the industry you’re interested in. Things like project management, teamwork, and understanding how to apply your research in a practical, real-world context are super important. Also, learning some software tools that are commonly used in the industry, like data analysis programs or coding languages, can be a big plus.
