Before I knew I wanted to go into Biomedical Engineering, I knew I wanted a career that would help others and truly make a difference. It seems to me as though many people find academia more fulfilling, at least in regard to having an impact on others. While I can see how being a teacher and a researcher can have a HUGE impact by touching the lives of so many students and finding scientific discoveries which could revolutionize the biomedical world, I do not find industry work to be any less meaningful. While it may not seem as impactful on the surface, I feel like I will be fulfilled working in industry because my teammates will rely on me, and I will be contributing to companies which mass produce products that many people need to use every day! While I may not plan on creating the newest technologies, I believe working in industry will still help others in a meaningful way. Do you guys feel as though one is more fulfilling than the other, or do you agree that academia and industry work can have an equal impact, just in different ways?
