Based on this course have you gained more interest, less interest, or the same interest in obtaining work as a PM? Personally, before this course, I knew nothing... I have gained more interest in PM jobs! The amount of leadership and support they give to teams is very inspiring.
I feel the same Jailyn, When I started this course, I knew little about project management. What I find most interesting about this course is the many facets that make a project as well as the different types of issues that may arise. I plan to work in industry and obtain a leadership position where I can gain experience in PM and well as lead projects.
I personally knew a little bit about project management from the company I used to work at, and I was intrigued by it. That’s why I wanted to take this course and Dr. Simon’s other course Medical Device Development. I think they both teach you concepts you’ll actually use in real life, and most courses fail to teach them. My interest definitely peaked after taking these two courses, and I am now certain that I would like to work in this field in the future.
In my experience, I didn't know much about project management until I started working and met with a mentor who introduced me to the PMP certification. Since then it has been a topic that I have discussed with many individuals and having seen that Professor Simon also received his PMP having a background in BME helped further my interest in this field. I have realized I have experienced many roles where I was in charge of leading and organizing a school club or even a co-op at work and found this work very enjoyable and rewarding which makes me think I would be a good fit for more project management work in the near future.
I would like to one day work in a PM role because I want to do the opposite of what previous PMs have done. In a lot job, PM tend to micromanage their subordinates, even if they are capable of doing the task efficiently. This micromanaging has the opposite affect of what the PM expects. Speaking from personal experience, this would delay our end goal and sometimes our timeline. I think the most important thing for a PM to know the strengths of each of their team members and figure out the best way for them to cohesively work together to reach the goal. I hope to do that as a PM.
Project management is a very necessary part of a successful product. Previously I have had some experiences as a team member of project with lacking direction and communication which resulted in many delays and ended with a less than stellar customer satisfaction. In the next project I took some leadership positions and tried my best with managing different team members, which resulted in better a outlook on the finished product and great customer satisfaction. This experience increased my in interest is project management as a whole.
In my experience working in medical laboratories, I often take part in executing one of many pieces of a project. Before taking this course, I was only familiar with the role I played within the laboratory. This course is beginning to broaden my interest in project management and is allowing me to become more knowledgeable about how organizational structure effects the outcome of projects. It’s not frequent that you come across a course that is practical and can be used every day but this one does a great job of drawing the student in and capturing their interest. I hope to gain the knowledge needed to someday become a project manager.
