I actually got an internship at a medical device company at the same time this class started, so I was able to solidify my knowledge of regulations from this class at work. I really got a grasp of not only what other departments at companies function, but different corporate structures. I am glad that this class does not just discuss the mechanisms of a company and also mentions how interpersonal skills/ interactions can affect your attitude on a project or with your coworkers. I think it's an important quality to know how to talk to others in a kind and professional way to maintain relationships with each other and keep a positive attitude in a work environment.

This class has taught me a whole lot and new found knowledge in project management. Felt like I took an entire program on project management. I have learnt time management and how to think fast to resolve problems with the help of the simulations thereby utilizing every innate skills as well as learning new ones. This class taught me how to work as a team.

Currently, applying the skills learnt from this class in the industry I presently work for as they do not have a well organized project management plan which has led to projects falling apart, not meeting deadlines or cancelling the project as a whole. I have been able to propose suggestions which are gradually being implemented, all thanks to the profound knowledge I gained in the course.

It’s easy to spend time on things that don’t matter too much but Project Management planning has shown me that a well organized project with project team members who spends their energy in an efficient way– solve problems deeply enough, which channels the project to get to a result that’s highly effective and cost effective.

Finally, though for the future I do not plan to make project management a career but the knowledge isn’t lost as I will definitely in some ways find myself part of a project team and I will need to apply these skills learnt. Project Management can be a hefty financial investment, but choosing to do it all by yourself can be a mistake.

I believe this course was very useful with lots of useful information. I learned a lot in this class, such as getting familiar with every detail of the process of the medical device, also this course will help me in structuring (formalizing) and standardizing different steps of different projects at work, the other important thing which I learned from this class was communication skills with team members and finally, I have learned to work with other students as team members on different projects which each one has been focused on a section of project management on medical devices process.

I believe this class is helpful in exposing students to the methods, processes, and roles in which projects are completed in the medical device industry. Therefore, I believe this class as well as the medical device development class are both helpful guides for students who will be entering the industry for the first time. As for students already working in the industry, I believe this class is also helpful in exposing them to aspects involved in a project that are not associated with the department they may be working in. Personally, I believe the simulations were especially helpful in showing students how to interact with other departments and team members involved with a project. For example in the simulation this week, the team had to collectively develop tests while keeping management up to date with our proposals to resolve the problem at hand. Lastly, I found this class very helpful as it enabled me to be a better candidate during job interviews as I incorporated the lessons learned from this class in my responses.

This class was very interesting and super informative for my future endeavors. What I found the most helpful and interesting were both the Mini-Simulations and the Simulations themselves. The mini-Sims gave me a chance to apply my knowledge and get results in real time. It also gave me an opportunity to see how I was retaining the information I was being taught. The simulations were also really cool because they gave me a glimpse as to how being on a real project team would be like. Every simulation was with a different team so I was also able to see how everyone I worked with organized themselves and how their minds worked in trying to solve the issues we had. That work on a personal level too. The simulations really made you tap into the critical thinking part of your brain and pulled you away from normal learning methods like memorization of materials.

Being previously familiar with design controls, this class is helpful in tying in the project management aspect of a project. I hope to eventually lead projects in a PM role, and this class has taught me a lot about what to expect in a PM position. I also found the simulations helpful. I don't have previous industry experience, but these simulations have given me an idea of what to consider and how to address unexpected problems. I am interested in seeing how the knowledge gained from the simulations and this course will translate to industry positions in the future.

As someone who has really only done research in academic settings, I find this class helpful since it provides insights that I would not have been able to access from my other classes and experiences. Its unique in the fact that it doesn't focus as heavily on classic engineering skills but rather focuses on engineering skills that are more pertinent to working as an engineer. It helps a lot to fill in the blanks that many other courses do not cover.

This class has taught me the work of a project manager as it would be in the real world. I am in my final semester of master's now and this class provided me with the insights of the project management. This will help me in the future when there will a need to apply my project management skills in a project.  The simulations were of great help to experience real life situations in a project.

As expected from this class the main lessons are regarding the factual information that goes into being a project manager. This information will help students get accustomed to any team environment more quickly whether as a PM or not. The most important lesson though I think the class teaches is that being a PM is not a simple job that is following a flow chart can solve, it requires communication, experience, and knowledge.

As we all know this the last lecture I would like that everyone should give their inputs saying how this class was helpful and how will it help them in future.

According to me i believe that this class would help me in formalizing the work of my project. I even learnt the standardized process for project which would help me at my workplace. And especially the risk assessment part will always be helpful in future.

I applied for my master degree right after I finished my bachelor degree. Then if got a job in the field, I had minimum idea about the industry and the class helped me a lot. Learning about project planning, project execution, and FDA regulations help me become better at my job. From the mini-simulations and the simulation projects, I learned the importance of deep research and paying attention to to invent details and specifications. It is jot only important to the FDA, but it is also very important to the project execution level and manufacturing after. I was impressed by how real life experience the simulations was passing to me, and I would like to add more to my knowledge about project management.

All of the lectures I feel have been very helpful in terms of real world scenarios. Although I have yet to apply them, the simulation do represent possible events that can happen in industry. For example in simulation 4, Dr. Simon used a real event that happened in his workplace that served as a good learning point.

I took another one of Dr. Simon’s classes last semester, which was similar to this one. I decided to take BME682 because I felt I didn’t quite grasp the concepts the first time. I feel I understand the process of creating a medical device much better. The simulations were challenging, but it was interesting to see the growth of the teams and how our thought process evolved. They were different projects that what I have experienced in other classes. Usually, other classes gave textbook problems with provided solutions. These were interactive and allowed us to go in any direction. Overall, this class was very practical and it has taught me to think like an engineer.

I found this class helpful in helping me understand the role of a PM without having to work as one first. Its a field I'm interested in entering but a lot of the times you need experience first in order to become one so I hope this course will help me set the stage to enter this field soon with the concepts I learned throughout the course alongside my current job.

This class brings insight to the project management processes along with its different branches. I think most engineers have a sufficient science background for the industry but they don’t have the medical device development knowledge that is needed. Having the prior knowledge allows me to succeed faster in the industry, which is why I registered for this class. I also think that the simulations showed me how obstacles can occur in projects, how to do your research/think about the problem, and then how to effectively choose the best solution. It gave me a look on how team projects usually work too. We had to manage finishing the simulation with everyone’s busy schedules colliding. This class also confirmed my interest in the industry rather than academia.

I think this course was useful for several reasons. The biggest help is the discussion of design controls and relevant industry terms/processes and how they link to project management structures. In academia, there is a lack of education on what actually occurs when working in industry and a huge gap in knowledge exists for many new graduates. This course helps fill in those gap and relates industry-relevant information in an academic setting. The other very useful part of this course (as frustrating as it may have been at the time) are the simulations. Having to deal with different people and navigate different personalities is very challenging but real situation that occurs often in the workplace and in managing projects. The simulations gave us a taste of how you might need to navigate when working towards a project goal.

Thanks,

Matt
