I am most motivated by being able to help out others and answer questions. That is, I know that if I perform at my best, learning as much as I can and succeeding in as much as I can, then I can be dependable to those around me. Not to say I want everyone to depend on me, but I would like to offer assistance to anyone that would take the time to ask me anything about life, work, or just something random. I don't know what kind of questions I will be asked but if I keep learning then maybe I can answer most of what comes my way.
This is a really interesting topic to discuss. What motivates me is something challenging and realizing that the work I do everyday improves human life. I like it when my brain is busy doing something for a good cause or figuring out ideas when working with a project from planning to completion. For example, in my capstone project, I was responsible for designing a front end software module including setting up a server and designing a UI (User Interface). I have never had an experience in designing any forms of software. This task motivated me in exploring the coding world and what it takes to design software. I was really able to transform myself from knowing very little on coding to designing front-end software.
Challenges makes us to put enormous efforts. Efforts makes us to gain lot of experience and knowledge, which makes us successful. So challenges are the only thing which motivates me. During my senior year, I was given a post of Marketing head for our college symposium, SRISHTI 2015, National level technical symposium. Marketing head post involves publicity of the symposium to other colleges and hospitality. It was really a tough job to rise the amount of registration since Biomedical colleges in our state was only 15 in number.
I took as a challenge and made it as a big success by rising the registration to 1500. Since it was a challenge we all put lot of efforts to make it happen and it did happen. So for a life challenge is the most important for me. This is the one driving me till date.
Similar to the aforementioned reasons, I also feel that what keeps me pushing is the fact that people can improve. People keep learning even after school. They learn even when they’re not even in school. I believe that the process of learning and improving is such an important aspect of growth and helping others reach that point is a mission that I find satisfying.
In my career thus far I have definitely found that challenging and interesting work created the most motivation for me, similar to the results of the poll that Dr. Simon showed in his lecture. When I first started my job, I was placed on a very challenging project that mostly consisted of putting out fires, one after the other. The project kept getting delayed, and many people on the team were losing motivation. I actually found these challenges to be motivating, because my job consisted of trouble shooting and solving problems and I really found it interesting.
As agree with most of the discussion above . The most important thing that motivates me is the career growth and development that i get. Every year my manger evaluate our performance, they provide us with training that we can choose (most of them are are out of country). It depends on our performance. I always try to bring out the best performance so that i can choose the training or career development that i take part. Above all , I feel like work that i do can bring a change in other peoples life ( Like i am playing a part in saving others life).
I guess for me the challenge and the reward is what motivates me to complete a project. The challenge aspect is important to me because it brings fun and excitement to the project. It engages me to research, brainstorm, ask questions, and gets me going because I’m learning new things. If there was no challenge I would probably just ease my way through lazily with many breaks and do a decent job. The more exciting the project is, the better motivated I will be, to do a great job. The second aspect, the reward, is something that also motivates me. I’ve done project where at the end my manager gave me a pat on the back and said I did excellent work. This motivates me because it shows what I’m capable of and that the company holds me to a high regard of what’s expected from me. I don’t want to disappoint my boss or the company so I do the best that I can.
my biggest motivation is taking care of my family. a few semesters ago I was working on a product design that I had to have the draft finished by the about the end of the semester as the project was to begin prototyping. that semester i had 12 credits including 2 classes with Dr.Roman. I stayed up just about every night during that semester to finish the designs by the deadline, as ensuring the completion of this project was an important step in securing income in my house. While I love designing and am happiest when at my computer drafting, the completion of this project was an integral step in securing my position and was a great addition to my resume. and I know everyone needs to pay bills, but for me being a fairly newlywed (<2 yrs) with more than just myself that I have to take care of, this was of the utmost importance to me.
What motivates me is my drive to help others. I believe in altruism and that we should strive to lend a hand to those in need. It's those who deny help who need it the most. By helping others, you not only instill your knowledge on them, they become more aware and you become much closer to an expert in that field. This also goes along with why I choose major in Biomedical Engineering because we are capable of creating some of the most incredible life-saving devices that can improve the lives of those who can't live a normal life. My philosophy helps one so that they can extend a hand to someone else. Therefore sending a shockwave of endless kindness to all.
Okay so everyone has their own drivers that motivates them in work-life. For me my motivation is my goals and challenges that come across me. The challenges encourages me to do more of research and gain knowledge. This helps me in creating good devices and do a great job by learning new things.
I am motivated by challenges and learning constantly. I love being given several task and deadlines and meeting them on time. I take every opportunity I can to learn. So I try to finish the project assigned to me as early as possible so I can start working on new projects. I have to constantly be using my brain and I don't enjoy slow days. My manager is constantly motivating our team to complete projects as soon as possible. A lot of our machines are pretty old and she pushed us to get projects moving for a few new machines and updates.
One of my biggest motivation at work is to perform in such a way that my manager has minimal to no negative feedback. When I started off with CAD work, my manager came back with a lot of constructive criticism, which I greatly appreciated because it helped me understand what was expected of me. But each time I sent him my CAD work, I tried to anticipate what he would critique about the CAD files whether it has to do with tolerances between parts or having a back-up design, I would have prepared. Before submitting my work, I would go for a brief walk to clear my mind then once I got back to my desk, I felt a little bit more refreshed. Then I would go over all of my work again but this time, trying to view it in the eyes of my manager and I would find subtle things to improve or remove. Once I was done with reviewing and editing, then only would I send my work to my manager. As time progressed, my manager had less and less to critique and now he fully trusts my work and knows that he barely has to review my work in detail. The positive feedback is what really pushes me to become a better engineer.
As I was scrolling through this page, I was truly fascinated by the different forces that motivate people and how diverse the responses are. I personally am motivated by feeling challenged and feeling that my work is meaningful. As Dr. Simon presented, according to Theory Y people are inherently motivated and the manager should allow enough room for each person to find their own motivating force. The goal of the manager is simply not to de-motivate employees, and to make sure the environment allows employees to maintain their unique motivation.
For me, goals are what keep me motivated. When what I am doing aligns with my short term and long term goals, it makes me passionate about the work I do because it is helping me get to the places I want to be. Throughout college, I had times when I was volunteering and working multiple jobs at once while participating in clubs while taking about 19 credits. Of course, there were times I felt very overwhelmed. However, each of the things I was doing was helping me work towards my future goals that I am passionate about. This is why I think it is important for people to asses what is important to them and what matters to them. When there is meaning in your work, it makes it a lot more enjoyable.
My motivation is accomplishing your goals. There are many challenges we will all face throughout our career. There will be ups and downs, but reaching your goal is probably the most satisfaction. By this I mean, you're completing your goal anywhere from small tasks to large projects. Reaching your end goal shows all the hard work you have made. I remember during my undergrad our capstone project was very stressful for weeks. The deadline was approaching fast and we still had a lot of work to wrap up and hand in for the final presentation. In the end our project was working as we intended, and the final presentation and report was completed. It was a sense of relief and excitement that we got everything done on time and it was working.
