We learned a lot about scheduling and task delegation this week and one major question arose. If the PM changes at different phases of a project (beginning, mid, near conclusion), and the an error in the scope is identified in the mid-phase, what do you suggest doing? More specifically, because the tasks delegated are based on the understanding of the scope and what needs to be accomplished for a project to be completed, if an unaccounted for task is needed to be added to the hierarchy of tasks and then to the schedule, how do you suggest a PM go about managing the existing staff to accomplish this? Do they get more staff, outsource, or just move the schedule around reducing the room for errors increasing risk of failure in the event of delays?
(Assuming that the current staff have the skill sets needed)
If its the beginning, should the whole project genesis procedure be repeated by the new PM but using the information collected by the previous PM?

Considering the deadlines are staying consistent and only the tasks change, or are added, I would most likely outsource the new task because it would be the quickest way to do it. Hiring more staff would take up more time because we would have to go through the interview process with multiple candidates, make offers and wait to hear back from them, go through the onboarding process, and then train them on all of our processes.  That can take at least two months in itself.  If we move the schedule around, we would not be able to meet our deadlines which will stir up more problems than its worth. If we move our qualified staff around to handle these new tasks, that would take focus off of their already assigned task which can cause delays. Outsourcing makes more sense because they already have the people in place that are trained to handle these task and they could get it done in a timely manner.  Doing it this way does not interrupt the processes that we already have in place.
