On the gantt chart, why is it important to have multiple overlapping tasks going on in parallel? I understand within a same category, to make a smooth and fast work process, tasks overlap and process in parallel. But why does it also same for within different categories?

The tasks are interdependent so the overlapping is done in same category to track both of them. While in the different categories there may be subprojects, subprograms or subportfolios that can be dependent when merged further. There has to be monitoring of them as well in parallel so there is no out of control situation occurance. OR they have to be monitored in parallel keeping in mind the Deadlines of finish of the project.

Gantt charts are not done for processes like design verification where one task must be completed before moving on to the next. Instead, they are mainly utilized for scheduling parts of the project that can be going on simultaneously. Therefore, you can have tasks in different categories going on at the same time.

A Gantt chart, commonly used in project management, is one of the most popular and useful ways of showing activities (tasks or events) displayed against time. On the left of the chart is a list of the activities and along the top is a suitable time scale. Each activity is represented by a bar; the position and length of the bar reflects the start date, duration and end date of the activity.

A Gantt chart is a type of bar chart that illustrates a project schedule. This chart list the tasks to be performed on the vertical axis, and time intervals on the horizontal axis. Gantt charts are usually created initially using an early start time approach, where each task is scheduled to start immediately when its prerequisites are complete. Gantt charts are useful for planning and scheduling project. Helps for managing the dependencies between tasks.

It’s important to have multiple overlapping tasks in different categories because in different departments, tasks can be completed early on and at the same time as other tasks which can speed up the timeline and give more time for validation and verification as well. Some tasks in different categories can also be required as prerequisites for other tasks later on in the Gantt Chart so completing them in parallel is important. It helps for each person involved in the project to see how their tasks will affect the timeline of the project and how delays in their timeline could delay other tasks later on. These Gantt Charts will also help the managers see if each task is staying on track in case there are adjustments to be made for future tasks.

Gantt Charts are very useful as a project management tool because they provide a visual depiction of the tasks that need completion. Similar to how a scatterplot can be used to see an overview of numerical data, a Gantt Chart provides an overview of what tasks need completion that is easier to absorb than just using a spreadsheet filled with rows of dates. This makes it convenient to view the state of the project not only to the project team themselves, but to upper management when reporting out the project status. Because of this, scheduling overlapping tasks is actually a strength of using Gantt Charts, since everything being worked on at the same time can be clearly viewed all together.

It is important to have several tasks being worked on in parallel to ensure the project moves along and gets completed in a timely manner. There are a ton of tasks that need to be completed to close out a project, so if each one was completed in series, it would take years for the project to finish. Additionally, tasks need to be completed by multiple team members, so everyone can be working on their respective tasks at the same time as long as one is not dependent on others. It is actually more likely that tasks will be worked on at the same time by multiple team members than an individual working on multiple tasks at once, since there is only so much one person can handle at a given time. The Gantt chart gives visibility to what tasks are being worked on throughout the project and will also allow the PM to plan for who will be able to complete each task.

I believe that having overlapping tasks in different categories is a way to help move the project along. To get the project done in a timely manner things have to happen at the same time or else it would take way too long to accomplish the project. Assign different tasks to different people in the group at the same time will allow for the project to move along without wasting time. During a project there are many tasks that rely on other tasks to be completed but there are also many tasks that can be completed independently. This is why having overlapping tasks can help the project finish in a timely manner.

I agree that the Gantt chart shows tasks for different categories to allow the project to move along much faster, but in addition to time, it offers greater organization, rather than having separate Gantt charts for different categories, which may be a bit more unorganized or confusing. Furthermore, the number of dependencies within and between different task categories allows someone working on a task in a specific category to understand the deadlines of the other task categories, in addition to being able to understand what steps run in parallel or after the specific task. This allows greater understanding of the project on a larger scale, as well as smaller scale. Therefore, not only does this display of tasks allow for the greater speeding-up of the project, but it also allows greater organization and better understanding of the project on a larger and smaller scale, which contributes to better overall project management.

The Gantt chart is much more reflective of a “perfect” schedule than it is how the project will actually occur. Things overlap because those specific tasks are independant on one another. With tasks being independent it allows flexibility within the schedule. If one portion of the total project finishes early then those working on that part can be moved to other parts of the project in order to speed the entire project up or to catch up to schedule. In something like design verification, some processes cannot overlap, so we would not expect overlap within the Gantt chart.

Gantt Chart makes complex and complicated data and project information into graphical view which helps making all the information understandable. Gantt Chart have the time and the task that should be done, which make it great kind schedule. Using Gannt Chart in Parallel is more practical to complete the project, where you will have team members all working each in different tasks to get the the end. on the other hand, series will take more time to complete the project, and even if its going to be only series why do you need a chart in the first place?

I believe having parallel and overlapping tasks can lead to an earlier completion of a project. The Gantt chart allows a project team to determine which tasks depend on others and decide which independent tasks can be completed at the same time. By completing independent tasks at the same time, it would save time throughout the project rather than waiting for a task to finish before beginning the next. Overlapping tasks can allow for different individuals or groups of individuals to be working on multiple tasks instead of waiting around for tasks to finish that may not make a difference in their own task.

The Gantt chart is designed to show the schedule for a project as a whole while also subdividing the pieces of the project. Therefore, some pieces of the projects may be scheduled for the same time due to them being necessary for the project to continue or due to them being completed by separate sub-teams within the overall project team. For example, during my senior capstone project our Gantt chart had 4 overlapping subprojects due to each team member work on one of the subprojects that would have individual prototyping and testing prior to the whole project coming together.

The Gantt chart helps to visualize the tasks in a project. Through the chart you are able to see how long tasks will take and which tasks are needed to be completed first before starting another task. It is important that you are efficient in completing tasks for a project. Tasks on the chart that overlap and occur in parallel are able to be completed independent of each other. Tasks are assigned to overlap to make sure that everything that can get done at a certain point in the project’s timeline does get done. This eliminates any unnecessary waiting time which could prolong the project’s completion.
