I believe early stage risk assessments should be prioritized because they help identify major hazards before significant time and resources are invested into development. I hear my self mimicking this sort of idea frequently as it is important not only to the benefit of the company and its timeline and resources, but to those patients that end up being the users. Tools like FMECA are valuable because they allow teams to evaluate severiity, probability, and detectability early so that most critical risks can be addressed first. Despite this, it is not realistic to eliminate every possible risk, especially when doing so could cause a significant delay in both development and costs. Rather, teams should do their best to find the balance in doing the best risk assessment with causing too much of a detriment to the mission goal.
