Factors other than matrix that can help detect the status of project is a detailed information system . If we communicate good regarding our project detail it will help us understand the growth o the project or status of the project . the time frame required fro the project. we have different tools that help in checking the time frame like Top-down estimate, expert judgment ect.

-Integration
- Scope
- Time/schedule
- Costs
- Quality
- Human resources
- Communication
- Risk
- Procurement
- Stakeholders

An additional factor that I would add onto the list that Aasutosh suggested is performance. While resources (people) may be available, if the work is not satisfactory then things will need to be redone. By monitoring performance in addition to costs, schedule, resources, etc. you can ensure that whatever estimates you do make about the timeline will remain accurate.

From my experience, the project schedule is a pretty solid way to track progress and determine potential end date of the project. However I agree with Aasutosh's list and as934 addition to that list. These components all make up the project status and directly impact the direction of the project. It is in the team's best interest to show and maintain control over these areas. A successful project completed on time is governed by control of the listed areas.

As we are talking about the time frame, the time frame drives the estimate of deadlines of planning and delivery of projects that effects on other peoples reliability and competence. It also helps us to determine pricing of contracts in commercial terms.

I also think that there should be an emphasis on the performance of the work, as previously stated. Project managers must ensure that their team is doing more than the bare minimum just to meet standards. A reasonably higher level of performance must be expected in order to ensure that the project is not only done but also done well.

You could monitor progress by looking at EV and SV.
Earned Value-the value of the work you have completed so far. Earned Value=Percent complete*original budged cost of task
Schedule Variance (SV)= EV- Planned Value (PV)
If you have a positive SV, that means you are ahead of schedule. If you have a negative value, that means you are behind schedule.

Another way to keep track of a project's progress is through team meetings in which the whole team gets filled in on each member's status within the project. Typically, team meetings will go over what has been completed, what is being worked on currently, and what else needs to be done. Lead times can be discussed for the future task so everyone on the team is on board in working towards that goal in a timely fashion. Higher priority tasks to get the project done should be addressed in each team meeting until all design requirements are met.

According to me, to help track the status of the project, one must establish goals and milestone and in order to keep track of this milestone, the manager must hold team minute meetings which provides detail on the project with any encountered issues. Furthermore, each milestone must have deadlines as well. Also, the famous Microsoft project tool, which will keep every deadline and task organized based on set timeframe.

According to me the factors that can help detect the status of the project and allow us to have a rough estimate of the time frame about the project would be having timely progress and status reports which would result in having an effective communication, having a good support to the team from the organization depending on the progress made. Apart from that the use of resources, costs and having a dedicated timeline with work being completed within the given deadline would be of some help.
