According to me in order to build a good relationship with your vendor the key thing is a good level of communication between the two so that they are well informed and up-to-date on the things going on. Have your vendors feel more like partners rather than just vendors by building a bond of mutual understanding, trust and loyalty by informing them about the company's processes such as informing them about launch of new product or promotions etc. Apart from this understanding that making timely payments to the vendor is a very crucial part will help build a good relationship with the vendor since you may pay the price for a product but you get the true value only with a good bond.
I think in order to maintain a good relationship with your vendor you should make him understand what product do you want from him. One should know what products the vendor makes other than your product so if at all we need another product similar to his other products we can ask him for the same to strengthen the ties with the vendor.
Also, communication regarding the time of delivery should be clear also the payment plan should be set already and we as a company should follow it so as to maintain the relationship with the vendor.

As was seen in this simulation, the language barrier really complicated everything. Additionally to make communication more effective clear documentation of everything should be kept. You need to specify exactly what you want and leave no room for interpretation. Of course being cordial is also a must. But you want to make sure that the vendor you are using meets all the standards that you have set for your project or company. Using a vendor that isn't certified might not be a good idea so certifications should be checked prior. Transparency is the key in my opinion.

Having had personal experience dealing with and interacting with dozens of vendors in my line of work at a hospital, it is essential that the relationships between the vendor and the hospital remains equally beneficial for both parties. From what I have seen, to maintain a good relationship with a vendor, you need an effective and consistent point of communication, a proper exchange of goods/services, and intent to continue to use the vendor for a point of service. Vendors will always try what they can to maintain customers, and will always try new ways or small gestures to ensure that they are able to maintain and continue your business. One example that I have personally encountered was using a medical device repair company to fix a patient monitor which would have been more expensive to fix in house than to send it out to that company for repair. I had reached out to the sales rep for the company and established the monitor repair in exchange for a flat rate fee since I had used the company many times before for similar matters. Not only did I receive the monitor back once the repair was complete, but the sales rep even gave me a bag of candy as a gesture for using the company for the repair, with the aim that I would use them again should the situation occur.

However, as shown by the simulation, it cannot solely define a successful vendor relationship. In order for a relationship to have success, there must be continuous and consistent communication through-out the entire length of the project. Communication should not stop when a problem occurs.

When treated as such, the supplier will be more willing to assist you in finding solutions to problems when they arise. Also, honesty regarding deadlines, budget and any other challenges you may be experiencing is crucial in establishing trust over time.
Finally, reliability is very important. Simply responding in a timely manner, adhering to commitments made, and remaining professional establishes a positive image to the vendor, and ultimately affects their willingness to continue working with you.
